Description

Mix butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla thoroughly.

Blend in flour and salt, then divide dough into four parts.

Color one part yellow and add lemon peel; color one part green and add lime peel; color one part with red and yellow food coloring and add orange peel. Leave one part plain.

Cover dough and chill for 1 hour.

Shape each colored dough into a roll about 2 inches in diameter and 4 inches long.

Divide plain dough into three parts and roll each into a 6-by-4-inch rectangle.

Wrap one rectangle around each colored roll and press firmly together. Roll in matching colored sugar.

Wrap and chill 6 hours.

Heat oven to 400°F. Cut each roll into 1/4-inch slices and place on ungreased baking sheets.

Cut each slice in half. Bake 6 to 8 minutes and immediately remove from baking sheets.
